Obuse is known as the "Town of Hokusai." In his last years he came to visit the 12th head of the Ichimura family (Takai Kohzan) and ancestor of the Masuichi Kyakuden and stayed for a total of 3 years during which he made works of art including a ceiling painting which can still be seen in all its bright color today. When in Obuse, he was provided with a lodging/studio named "Hekiiken," which the current Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery's daiginjo junmai sake "Hekiiken" is named after. |
