Renovated Buildings that
Witnessed Obuse’s History

Existing buildings were renovated and turned into guestrooms. While carrying forward the spirit of past owners and retaining original design elements, the buildings were given bold, modern makeovers. We hope you enjoy a relaxing stay surrounded by Obuse’s history.

Masuichi House Sanada-tei
Obuse’s Townscape Renovation Project played a pioneering role in collaborative town planning. This guestroom is housed in a renovated building originally constructed as part of that project. The large bedroom windows were retained, creating an open, airy space.
Masuichi House Naka
A site of historical significance in Obuse, this location housed an apothecary during the Edo period and served as a post office during the Meiji period. The building, which dates to the early Showa period, has been renovated. Original features that were retained include a window shaped like Mount Fuji and the “postcard tree” in the courtyard, planted to commemorate the opening of the post office.
